This May, Dynamite Entertainment and Disney are taking Gargoyles fans on an epic journey through time with a brand-new comic series centered on Demona, one of the franchise’s most complex and compelling characters. Legendary Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman teams up with original series co-showrunner Frank Paur to reveal long-hidden moments from Demona’s thousand-year history—including the introduction of her mysterious daughter, Angelika.
For centuries, Demona has been one of the most formidable figures in the Gargoyles mythos, but much of her long and turbulent past has remained a mystery. While the Manhattan Clan was frozen in stone, Demona was left to roam the world alone, shaping her own destiny through conflict, vengeance, and heartbreak. Gargoyles: Demona will explore five pivotal moments in her life, beginning in the Dark Ages of 994, as she embarks on a quest for revenge against Canmore—a mission that will shape her fate for centuries to come.
Weissman shares:
Demona has a thousand years’ worth of backstory that our other leads flat-out don’t have. That creates a lot of opportunities for storytelling — and we have a monumental story to tell!
Check out a preview of the stunning covers below! Each issue of Gargoyles: Demona will feature breathtaking variant covers from Frank Paur, Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and Mark Spears—bringing the timeless tragedy and fierce power of Demona to life like never before!
For the first time, fans will be introduced to Angelika, Demona’s long-lost daughter. Unlike her immortal mother, Angelika is bound by time, leading to a tragic and emotional story that asks: What happens when a mother watches her child grow old while she remains unchanged? And as the series unfolds, fans will witness the stark contrast between Angelika and Angela, deepening the larger tragedy of Demona’s existence.
To celebrate this must-read storyline, a special prologue issue will be available on Free Comic Book Day in May, offering fans a first look at the series.
Gargoyles: Demona also marks the first interior comic work from Frank Paur, the visionary animator and director who co-ran the original Gargoyles series with Weisman. A longtime fan-favorite known for his work on X-Men: Evolution and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Paur originally pitched the idea for this series to Weisman, leading to a collaboration alongside editor Nate Cosby, SLG-era colorist Robby Bevard, and the teams at Dynamite and Disney.
Adding to the excitement, each issue of the series will feature stunning variant covers, including artwork by Frank Paur himself, as well as acclaimed artists Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and Mark Spears.
A centuries-spanning epic, Gargoyles: Demona promises to deliver action, intrigue, and heartbreak, shining a spotlight on one of the Gargoyles universe’s most fascinating figures—while proving that immortality always comes at a cost.
