Artist/producer Dijon coaxed Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon back to the live stage last night (Dec. 6) during his performances on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, as the latter joined a super-sized band for the occasion also featuring Zack Villere, Nick Hakim and former Dirty Projectors vocalist Amber Coffman.
Dijon contributed to Vernon’s 2025 Bon Iver comeback album SABLE, fABLE, and Vernon returned the favor by making his first high-profile appearance on stage since an Aug. 2024 campaign rally for presidential candidate Kamala Harris in his hometown of Eau Claire, Wi. Vernon has also not performed live in any form in support of SABLE, fABLE, which is nominated for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance (“All Is Peaceful Love”) at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
However, Vernon teased his intentions by joining Dijon onstage at New York’s Terminal 5 on Thursday as part of a three-show area run that also featured guest turns from frequent collaborator mk.gee. At an April event with clothing designer Todd Snyder, he admitted, “I’m not going to sing for a while. I’m going take a second. I sang plenty on this record, man. Let this record be the performance. I’ll figure out how to sing in front of people again later. Why play a new version? You worked five years on it. It would be like putting a new chore coat out and then spray-painting it yellow the second day it was available.”
Dijon was performing in support of his latest album, Baby, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. He also shares an Album of the Year nomination for his work on Justin Bieber’s comeback album, SWAG.
“Tour has been gorgeous and we just got to rock on live TV SNL-syle for those out there in da wild,” he wrote on Instagram. “Grateful, true and couldn’t do it without the most divine squad ever. Grateful and buzzin and everyone who has bought a ticket is a light.”
