Do you think Timothy Dalton’s darker Bond take would have worked in the early 80s?

Personally, I would have liked if Moore had taken over at OHMSS until Moonraker, then Dalton would have played Bond with a darker take from 1982 to 1987, and Pierce Brosnan would have played in The Living Daylights-Die Another Day (continuing with the darker Dalton tone).

I recently rewatched the Dalton movies and damn I wish he would have played Bond a bit earlier, he was the perfect actor for the role, and I feel like Moore would have been better in his younger era also. Do you think Dalton's take would have worked in the early 80s?
