Doechii tries to lighten the mood with a funny reaction to all the backlash she’s receiving this week. A viral video shows the rapper demanding more umbrellas to hide her 2025 Met Gala ’fit before hitting the blue carpet at the event.
Doechii’s “Umbrella” Moment Was Bigger Than the Fashion
On Wednesday (May 7), Doechii heard the internet loud and clear after a video posted on TikTok Monday (May 5) showed her yelling at her glam team to get her more umbrellas in an effort to conceal her Met Gala look before the big reveal at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The backlash on social media from people calling her out for how she treated her crew was swift.
The Florida native acknowledged the chatter by posting a video of herself on her Instagram Story earlier today listening to The Commodores’ “Easy” and moving away from the camera with her hands up. “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,” she wrote on the video with emojis of an umbrella and crying laughing face.
Clearly, she saw all the negative comments people were saying about her following the incident. Doechii also put up a message thanking her team and the Louis Vuitton team, who created her wardrobe for the special occasion.
“And all jokes aside I’m so so so proud of my glam team and the LV team for an incredible night!” she wrote. “We’ve been dreaming about this Met for a long time and the theme this year is in such alignment with who I am what I stand for. It’s nothing but God that this year was our debut. Everyone killed it. We nailed the theme.”
Before Doechii debuted her Pharrell-styled attire (he’s Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director) to celebrate the evening’s dress code honoring Black dandyism, a form of power, resistance and identity through fashion using self-expression and subtle rebellion against societal norms, she was at a nearby hotel getting ready to head to the Gala. Unfortunately, she was standing at the front of an elevator when the doors opened. So, Doechii was exposed to a crowd of people with cameras and cell phones ready to catch a first look of what she was wearing before she was even prepared for anyone to see.
The moment caused her team to rush and find a rolling cart covered in privacy screens so she could be hidden on all four sides as she walked to a waiting vehicle. Before she made that trek, Doechii began yelling at what appeared to be her assistants, who were running around getting umbrellas for her.
“Yes, I’m ready,” Doechii said.” Get me another umbrella. Get me another umbrella, now! And another one. I need four f**kin’ umbrellas.” Then people were seen scrambling for more umbrellas to cover the top of the cart.
Finally, she made her way to a waiting Sprinter van to take her to the Met Gala, where the MC showed out on the blue carpet in a cropped monogram LV blazer, LV Damier shorts, a burgundy scarf tied around her collared shirt and matching burgundy platform Mary Janes with the most appropriate socks. Her big accessory for the night: a cigar. The Grammy-winning artist certainly nailed the theme. The entire look can be seen below.
As for her meltdown, Doechii was likely stressed over having all her preparation ruined by thirsty paparazzi and fans wanting to ruin her reveal. Raising her voice at her team isn’t the best look, and the public sounded off on the matter on social media—the good and the bad. But Doechii’s IG post today bigging up her team seems that all is good in her inner circle. No more anxiety.
