Could Ewan McGregor be back to the world of Star Wars? The Obi-Wan Kenobi actor shares his thoughts on a potential return.
Ewan McGregor is one of the most beloved actors in the entire Star Wars canon. While his eponymous Obi-Wan Kenobi show wasn’t the best received by fans, there’s still been calls for the actor to return to a galaxy far, far away at least one final time. Those exact sentiments seemed to be echoed by McGregor during a recent interview.
“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one,” McGregor told Variety in a recent talk. “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
Even though some fans argued that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series broke Star Wars canon by having Ewan McGregor reunite with Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, it’s a dynamic that many want to see revisited in either a season 2 or future project. Luckily, there seems to be plenty of avenues for that dream to become a reality.
How Ewan McGregor Can Return To Star Wars
While the most obvious answer for Ewan McGregor to return would be to give Obi-Wan Kenobi a second season on Disney Plus, the lack of any word on the prospect over two years out suggests the concept is dead in the water. However, showrunner Deborah Chow did admit that, while it was originally conceived as a limited series, there’s plenty of room for new adventures in the Star Wars universe.
Ewan McGregor himself also revealed that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was originally envisioned as a movie. While many of the ideas likely translated into the Disney Plus show, it’s entirely possible for whatever comes next for the character to be put on the big screen as the next tentpole Star Wars film in a similar way to The Mandalorian and Grogu.
