Warner Bros. Discovery has officially pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated TV adaptation of the Wizarding World, and fans finally have something real to latch onto.
The studio unveiled the title, first teaser trailer, and release date for its upcoming Harry Potter series, and from the looks of it, this could be something pretty special.
The series will be titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, matching the original UK book and film naming, and it’s set to premiere globally on HBO Max on Christmas Day 2026. The announcement came during a launch event in London celebrating the platform’s expansion, and it didn’t disappoint.
Right out of the gate, the teaser gives off a strong sense of scale and care. The production value looks impressive, and the tone leans into the magic and mystery that made the original story such a hit.
We get glimpses of key moments like Harry’s difficult life before Hogwarts, the arrival of his acceptance letter, and his first steps into a much bigger world.
The story’s official logline reads: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past.”
The teaser also introduces a handful of iconic characters including Harry, Aunt Petunia, Ron, Draco, Snape, Ollivander, Professor McGonagall, and Hagrid. There’s a clear effort here to stay faithful while still giving the story room to breathe in a long-form format.
And yes, the dialogue hits those familiar emotional beats fans love. Hagrid delivers a heartfelt line to Harry: “Your parents were the bravest kindest people I’ve ever met…they stood up for what they think is right… next time I see you will be in hogwarts.”
Later, Ollivander adds a bit of foreshadowing with: “Mr. Potter I think we can expect great things from you,”
Casting-wise, this series is loaded with talent. Dominic McLaughlin steps into the role of Harry Potter, and from the first look image released on Instagram, he already feels right at home in the Gryffindor robes, heading toward the Quidditch pitch. Joining him are Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
The supporting cast is just as exciting, featuring John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The ensemble continues with Rory Wilmot, Lox Pratt, Leo Earley, Elijah Oshin, Tristan Harland, Gabriel Harland, Ruari Spooner, Alessia Leoni, Sienna Moosah, Finn Stephens, William Nash, Warwick Davis, and Sirine Saba rounding out the Hogwarts roster.
Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, known for their work on Succession, are leading the charge. Gardiner is writing and serving as showrunner, while Mylod will direct multiple episodes. The series is also backed by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, keeping it closely tied to the original creative vision.
This adaptation is aiming to dig deeper into the source material while delivering a cinematic TV experience. If the rest of the series holds up to what this first teaser promises, fans could be in for a pretty awesome return to Hogwarts.
