Summary

  • From April 2–6, six Assassin’s Creed titles; Unity, Syndicate, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, and Mirage, are available to play for free on Xbox as part of Free Play Days! Time to leap into history!
  • Whether you favor stealth, RPG depth, or open‑world exploration, there’s an Assassin’s Creed game tailored to your playstyle across centuries of richly detailed historical settings!
  • All six titles will be heavily discounted in the Ubisoft Store and on the Microsoft Store during the event, and any progress made during Free Play Days will carry over if you choose to purchase.

During this special instalment of Free Play Days –Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and the introduction of Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available to play for free for all Xbox players between April 2 – April 6, no Game Pass membership needed. So, the question is: with six games spanning centuries of history, where do you start?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, of course, but the settings of the games are just one way to decide. How you prefer to play is also a great way to find the best Assassin’s Creed entry for you, so we’ve thrown together a handy cheat-sheet based on your playstyle – whether you prefer a classic stealth experience or a sweeping RPG. Let’s leap of faith our way in.

Assassin’s Creed Unity – Paris, French Revolution

Best for: The stealth enthusiast

Assassin’s Creed Unity thrusts players into the peak of the French Revolution, turning Paris into a virtual playground for stealth players. As Arno Dorian, [spoiler alert] the son of an Assassin, adopted into a Templar household, and a master Assassin in his own right, you can blend into protesting crowds to take out an enemy unnoticed (or lose a tail if you’re spotted); execute targets from hiding places (including a Notre Dame confessional); and create distractions by throwing smoke and cherry bombs, money pouches, phantom blades, and stun grenades. And don’t forget to parkour across Parisian rooftops with gravity-defying leaps and stylish ejects.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – London, Victorian Era

Best for: The gadget lover/dual playstyle player

At the heart of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate are Jacob and Evie Frye, twin Assassins fighting to free 1868 London from the Templar’s grip during the Industrial Revolution. As the city booms, they work to build the Rooks, a gang capable of challenging rival factions to reclaim London’s underworld. From robbing trains to rescuing child laborers and infiltrating enemy strongholds, missions immerse you in the grit and intrigue of Victorian London. Jacob brings close-range brawling with brass knuckles, while Evie relies on stealth and precision with her cane sword. As you progress, you unlock gadgets like the kukri knife, revolver, and rope launcher, with each twin’s skill tree supporting stealth or combat depending on your preferred playstyle.

Assassin’s Creed Origins – Ancient Egypt

Best for: The explorer

Siwa. Alexandria. Giza. Memphis. Whether you’re scaling the Great Pyramids (or delving beneath them), searching for answers in the Library of Alexandria, or raiding a bandit camp in the middle of the desert, the discovery and exploration in Assassin’s Creed Origins feels endlessly delightful. Stepping into the role of Bayek of Siwa, you embark on a personal journey of vengeance that carries you across ancient Egypt, from lush oases to sprawling dunes to crowded metropolises. Uncover the mysteries hidden in this world and interact with historical figures like Cleopatra, Caesar, Ptolemy, and more.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Ancient Greece

Best for: The RPG enthusiast/choice lover

Set across a sprawling, sun-drenched Ancient Greece, you step into the sandals of a Spartan mercenary – you can choose between siblings Alexios and Kassandra – and carve your way through one of the series’ most ambitious worlds. Dialogue choices, branching storylines, gear upgrades, rarity tiers and enemy scaling all shape Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as a full-blown power fantasy RPG.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – Viking Age England

Best for: The sandbox conqueror

If you love exploring a vast, living world that rewards deep commitment, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla delivers just that. Step into the role of Norse chieftain Eivor as you conquer new lands, forge strategic alliances, and build a thriving settlement from the ground up. Expansive and boldly epic, Valhalla is designed for players who want their choices to carry weight and who savor watching every conquest leave a lasting mark. Also: Vikings!

Assassins Creed Mirage – Baghdad, 9th Century

Best for: The ones who still don’t know where to start

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a homage to the original Assassin’s Creed, meaning it’s a lot more condensed than the games that came just before. Playing as Basim, a cunning street thief, you’ll have a considerable toolset and multiple ways to infiltrate within open-ended assassination scenarios. Mirage rewards planning and observation over brute force and feels like a nostalgic stealth experience for those who haven’t touched an Assassin’s Creed game since the originals, or simply want a tighter Assassin’s Creed experience. (Note: During Free Play Days, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be limited to a 2-hour experience.)

Good luck Assassins, and remember that during the Free Play Days, all six games will also be heavily discounted at the Ubisoft Store and Microsoft Store and are available in Game Pass, allowing you to continue your adventures once the Free Play Days end. If you purchase a game, your progress from Free Play Days will carry over.
