It goes without saying that the launch of the Energon Universe from Skybound has revitalized both the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises appealing to both new and long-time fans. In the case of G.I. Joe, some of the more ridiculous aspects from the classic ’80s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero animated series have garnered a certain kitsch appeal. Case in the point, the “Cold Slither” episode that saw Zartan and the Dreadnoks disguise themselves as the eponymous heavy metal band in order to brainwash the American youth.
Fans and collectors will be excited to hear that Hasbro has announced that a Cold Slither reunion tour is underway this year. First up, is a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES #163, DREADNOKS COLD SLITHER: BAND OF VIPERS TOUR COMMEMORATIVE action figure set. For those who can’t make it, fret not! The beat doesn’t stop there! Hasbro has partnered with Reigning Phoenix Music, a rapidly ascending record label specializing in hard rock and heavy metal, to announce the self-titled anthem “Cold Slither.” Dedicated to G.I. JOE fans across the world, the album presents 10 electrifying tracks that blend searing distorted guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, and irresistibly catchy, anthemic choruses.
