“They don’t compare and compete with each other because they’re completely different films,” Benson, who made a cameo in the live action iteration, explained to Today of wanting to be part of both worlds. “An animated and a live action, they’re completely different. And that’s kind of how I explain it to people—you can love both films.”
And while you might think her collection’s complete, Benson continues to voice Ariel for a slew of Disney products— including projects for the parks, commercial promotions and video games—estimating that she belts out “Part of Your World” at least once a week.
“My job is to make sure I can create that trigger memory for people,” she explained of singing it “exactly the same way” she did while recording the OG film. “And I never change.”
