However, when Harry Potter director Chris Columbus saw pictures of the Hot Fuzz actor in costume as Hagrid for the forthcoming HBO series, he did wonder if he was seeing double.
“I’m seeing these photographs online,” Chris—who helmed the first three Harry Potter films—said during an upcoming appearance on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, per Deadline, “and he’s wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid. Part of me was like: What’s the point?”
“I thought everything—the costumes and everything—was going to be different, but it’s more of the same,” the 66-year-old continued. “It’s all going to be the same.”
Indeed, in early images from filming featuring Nick in costume, his shaggy hair and beard coupled with a green overcoat and red sweater bears a striking resemblance to the ensemble worn by the late Robbie Coltrane in the original film franchise.
Chris, however, isn’t offended by the similarities.
