One of Aniimo’s questlines will take you on a hunt for mysterious cubes around Astra’s Northside. This quest is rewarding, but it’s a bit tricky because it doesn’t fully guide you with quest markers. In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock the Mysterious Presence quest and how to collect all Voxel Cubes to complete it.
How to unlock the Mysterious Presence quest
You’ve likely spent most of your time hunting Aniimo and doing main story quests in Idyll, but you’ll want to visit the city of Astra to get access to the Mysterious Presence questline as well as others.
To get started, go to your map and teleport back to Astra. Then, head to Horizon Square, which is the city market area of the game. Go to the Chill Beanz Cafe on the lower level. There will be a glitching sign out front. Interact with it to spawn a mysterious cube to your left. Grab it, and this will start you on the Mysterious Presence questline.
It’s uncertain if this quest is bugged, or if you’re not supposed to get much guidance. You can go into your menus, select the Log, and manually track the Mysterious Presence questline, but guide markers don’t always appear on your map.
How to complete the Mysterious Presence quest
The first cube you find will then task you with visiting Dr. Bohr. Teleport to the Polaris Institute and find him on the upstairs floor. He’ll tell you to speak with Nova in the Holo Lab. She’s also upstairs and in the section across from Dr. Bohr. This will get you started on your cube hunt, and you’ll need to teleport back to Horizon Square.
You’ll need a total of nine Voxel Cubes, and these are found by completing puzzles scattered across the various parts of Horizon Square.
Cube one
Chill Beanz Cafe (quest starter) You already have one cube from visiting Chill Beanz cafe, so head down to the next puzzle.
Cube two
Head up the stairs on the right side of the cafe. Another on the upper level above it by the Mementos gift shop. Make sure to turn around after solving the slider puzzle and grab the cube piece.
Cube three
There is a See Saw on the lower floor just to the right of Chill Beanz. Hop on with your Aniimo buddy and See Saw to fill the meter to spawn a cube behind it. Make sure to grab it.
Report back to Nova
Nova will call you after finding your third cube. Teleport back to the Institute and meet with her again. She’ll send you on the hunt for more. These may or may not be marked on your quest log.
Cube four
Head back near the Chill Beanz cafe. Find Jiff all the way upstairs at the top of the Super Claw. He’ll ask you to jump up on a platform and investigate a noise. Doing so will spawn a cube on the ground below you. Grab and speak with Jiff again to continue your cube hunt.
Cube five
On the rooftop near Jiff is a large swing you can play on with your Aniimo buddy. This works like the See Saw activity earlier. Swing and build momentum to fill the bar and swing all the way around. Doing so will unlock another Voxel Cube to pick up.
Cube six
There are colorful lines of eight numbers marked around various places in the city. You want to find the set of numbers to the right of the ice cream stand on Chill Street. This is close to the teleport hub into Horizon Square. Run along the numbers from 1 to 8, and make sure you hit them all to spawn a cube.
By now, you have enough cubes collected that Nova will mark the rest of them on the map for you.
Cube seven
At the northside of Horizon Square, you’ll find Judy and her musical Aniimo friends. You need to solve the music puzzle for her.
The solve is:
- Interact with Chirpi first and select “Hey”
- Interact with Tromber and select “Hey, hey”
- Interact with Cornet and select “Hey, hey, hey, hey”
Cube eight
Search for a glitched sign outside of Starwish Gacha. Complete the slider puzzle to get this cube.
Cube nine
You’ll find another line of eight colored numbers just outside of the Chill Beanz cafe. Look to the left side of the entrance. Walking across all eight will spawn your final cube.
The Voxelic boss fight
With all cubes collected, return to the Holo Lab in the Polaris Institute and speak with Nova. The cubes you gathered have opened a door portal inside the lab. Talk to Nova will initiate a boss fight.
There will be three boss phases: Water, Ice, then Dark.
After finishing the fight, the quest will prompt you to read some data chips and make a few more dialogue prompts. Talk to Nova, Dr. Bohr, and lastly, Professor Oswen. You’ll be rewarded with Voxel coins, Glimmer, and credits.
