What an emotional Father’s Day.
Kimberly Van Der Beek took to Instagram on Father’s Day to honor her late husband, James Van Der Beek, with a touching tribute that has fans feeling all the emotions. The post marked the first Father’s Day since the actor’s death earlier this year, making the holiday especially difficult for the family.

In her message, Kimberly reflected on how much she misses James and praised the kind of father he was throughout his life. She wrote that she was thinking about how “magnificent” he was and shared her belief that he continues to guide and parent their family from the other side.
She wrote:
“Missing you so much and thinking of how magnificent you were in every single way today. And somehow, from the other side? You continue to parent. You’re a marvel.”
So, so touching.
The heartfelt note offered a glimpse into the grief Kimberly and the couple’s children are still experiencing months after losing the beloved actor — and served as a celebration of the love and influence James left behind.
Fans flooded the comments section with supportive messages, offering condolences and sharing memories of the star. Many thanked Kimberly for sharing such a personal moment and sent love to the entire family as they continue to mourn, too.
As we’ve reported, the Dawson’s Creek alum died earlier this year after battling colorectal cancer — a diagnosis he revealed in late 2024. Since his passing, tributes have continued to pour in from fans, friends, and members of the entertainment industry.
