Jason Statham’s Action Smash Hit That Grossed 4x Its Budget Explodes on Streaming Charts

Jason Statham’s new movie arrived in theaters everywhere this weekend, but fans still can’t stop watching one of his most beloved actioners from the second half of his career. In 2024, Statham teamed up with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Jeremy Irons (Highlander) for The Beekeeper, a conspiracy thriller following a former high-level operative who is called back into the field when someone close to him is killed. In America, The Beekeeper is streaming on Prime Video and MGM+, but globally, the film is charting in the HBO Max top 10 in several countries. It’s also a smash hit on Prime Video in select countries.

The Beekeeper was a smash hit in 2024 by nearly every metric. The film earned a solid 71% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and even a Verified Hot 92% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. Amazon spent around $40 million on the making of The Beekeeper, and it proved to be a worthy investment when the film grossed over $160 million at the global box office. This made the greenlighting of a sequel an easy choice, though the cast and creative crew on The Beekeeper 2 look much different than they did for the first film.

After David Ayer directed The Beekeeper, he had to step back from the sequel due to a scheduling conflict. While Ayer works on Heart of the Beast, the action-adventure film starring Brad Pitt, Timo Tjahjanto has resumed directorial control of The Beekeeper 2. Jeremy Irons is returning to star in The Beekeeper 2, but newcomers such as Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland have also joined the cast. Klementieff is an MCU veteran and Copeland is famous for starring as Ares in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

When Does ‘The Beekeeper 2’ Come Out?

Earlier this year, The Beekeeper 2 director Timo Tjahjanto posted a photo of himself and Jason Statham on his personal Instagram, calling 2026 “The year of The Beekeeper 2.” This led fans to assume that the film would be released before the end of this year, but Amazon announced over the weekend that the film will be released at the start of next year, on January 15, 2027. Statham has another movie, Mutiny, that will be released in theaters this August, ahead of The Beekeeper 2.
