Kerry Washington knows how to work it. The Scandal actress honored ’80s legend and her friend, Jane Fonda, 88, with an iconic Halloween costume.
Kerry, 49, shared a video to Instagram of her wearing a workout fit just like Jane’s from the 1980s. The actress wore a pink striped bodysuit, light purple tights, and dark purple leg warmers to complete the look.
Using audio from one of Jane’s workout videos, Kerry showed off the look, with the caption: “Jane Fonda is the QUEEN. Happy #Halloween!!!!!!” In another post to Instagram, the Imperfect Women actress posed just like Jane from the ’80s, writing: “Jane Fonda but make it Black.”
And her fans loved the costume. One person commented: “YOU ARE HILARIOUS (and SO gorgeous!!!)” Another added: “Haha Love this !! Happy Halloween Kerry.”
The Animals actress is friends with Jane, so the costume means even more to her. Kerry once interviewed Jane on her podcast Street You Grew Up On and have worked together in politics. This Halloween isn’t the first time Kerry has dressed up as Jane!
In 2020, the Little Fires Everywhere actress wore a Jane-inspired outfit alongside Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Amy Schumer, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson in an effort to get out the vote. The stars called it “Exercise That Vote.”

After winning two Oscars, Jane pivoted to fitness. In 1982, the Grace and Frankie actress released Jane Fonda’s Workout, which was aimed at women as a way to exercise from home. It became one of the bestselling VHS tapes of all time and turned her into a workout icon. But, she stayed true to her activist roots and ensured all the profits went to the Campaign for Economic Democracy, a political action committee (PAC) she co-founded with her husband at the time, Tom Hayden.
“It was a pretty interesting time for me because people recognized me in a whole different way,” Jane recalled in the 2018 HBO documentary Jane Fonda In Five Acts.
The Barefoot in the Park actress both helped women become healthier and helped herself recover from an eating disorder.
“The longer space you put between yourself and the addiction, the easier it gets,” she told People in 2018. “I started the workout, and that kind of cemented my ability to eat normal, which I can do now. Some people say you can never get over it, but you can.”
