Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan has shared his thoughts on David Jonsson being cast as the new protector of Wakanda. The Oscar winner portrayed the villain Erik Killmonger in the 2018 film and reprised the role in its sequel. MCU announced Jonsson’s casting as Toussaint, aka Prince T’Challa, in Black Panther 3 during its San Diego Comic-Con panel last week.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan expressed his excitement about the casting. “Oh, I love it. It’s amazing! I can’t wait, can’t wait!” he said at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere.
While Marvel Studios currently has Letitia Wright’s Shuri as Black Panther, the third film is expected to give that mantle to Jonsson. The actor previously starred in The Long Walk, Alien: Romulus, and more.
What has Michael B. Jordan worked on since starring in Black Panther?
Jordan has been a longtime collaborator of Ryan Coogler. The duo has worked on every film by the director, from his debut Fruitville Station to 2025’s celebrated period horror Sinners. Following Sinners, the actor voiced Ollie in Swapped, an animated film that became a huge hit on Netflix.
Besides acting, the Marvel star also made his directorial debut with Creed 3, which grossed over $246 million at the box office. He has also confirmed his interest in developing a fourth Creed film. However, before that becomes a reality, Jordan will executive produce Delphi, a Prime Video series spinning out of Creed.
Jordan’s upcoming projects include a Battlefield movie that he will produce and potentially star in. The 39-year-old will also share the screen with Will Smith in the long-awaited I Am Legend sequel. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Jordan will reunite with Coogler on Black Panther 3. In the second film, he reprised the role of Killmonger in a cameo.
Black Panther 3 is scheduled to release on December 15, 2028.
