The director of Square Enix, Yoshinori Kitase, has participated in a special feature celebrating the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy X. Mr. Kitase spoke about the difficulties of assembling a team to tackle the project as Tetsuya Nomura was wrapped up in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Other members of staff were beavering away on Kingdom Hearts, so they found it difficult to find the right people for the job. Thankfully they did and Final Fantasy X ended being one of the best-selling games in the entire Final Fantasy franchise.
Kitase: First of all, assembling the FFX team was difficult. Tetsuya Nomura and I worked on FFVII and FFVIII together, but then he was assigned to KINGDOM HEARTS (hereafter KH). He was involved with FFX as a character designer of course, but his main project was KH, and some of the other staff was assigned there too.
