Laverne Cox has accomplished an incredible milestone by being the star of ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ concert production with an entirely trans and non-binary cast at Carnegie Hall on October 20. This concert has become a landmark event in the history of representation in theater, and it is a benefit for Breaking the Binary Theatre, Trans Lifeline, and Black Trans Liberation.

Cox expressed the moment vividly when she had to go through all the feelings of the situation at the same time. “Holy crap,” she said in a video released by Breaking the Binary Theatre. “I have been to this place many times. Nevertheless, I have never seen it from this side.” She was already excited and happy about it, saying that he could be getting “freaked out” on the actual day of the performance. “I was in the audience, but to be on the stage, I can’t believe it,” Cox told. “I know I’ve worked so hard through my career and thanks to Breaking the Binary Theatre, I’m here so thank you. It’s a dream come true.”

Cox will be the one taking the role of the main character in the concert on Monday, October 20, when The Drowsy Chaperone takes the spotlight. An all-star cast is supporting her, including Alex Newell, Jonathan Van Ness, Dylan Mulvaney, Betty Who, Peppermint, and many more artists who are trans, non-binary, or two-spirit. The concert is a reimagining of the Tony-winning musical and is also the opening event for the fourth annual Breaking the Binary Theatre Festival. Starting at $39, the tickets’ proceeds will go to three organizations’ support: Breaking the Binary Theatre, Trans Lifeline, and Black Trans Liberation.

Cox was quick to point out the broader significance of the production when he presumed his role as a platform. “There is so much incredible talent that the trans community has and is still being underused and we can do anything, “she frankly said. She voiced a wish that the audience would take the event as a source of encouragement. “I hope they are encouraged. I hope they have a rocket’s time to spread the word about Breaking the Binary Theatre and that trans are beautiful.” Her final words were an outright invitation: “The Cortège Drowsy in concert at Carnegie Hall, October 20th at 8 p.m. Get your tickets now. What are you waiting for? Buy your tickets. I’m gonna be there.”

The news was met with overwhelming excitement and support. One comment recognized the achievement of Cox in a very loving and family-like manner saying, “You deserve it AUNTIE.” Another one just pointed out, “You’d look so beautiful on that historic stage” indirectly mentioning the aesthetic effect of her presence. A lot of people said that they had already purchased their tickets. “Got my tix a while back! Can’t wait,” was one user’s comment, while another chimed in, “Can’t wait!! We have our tickets!” This rapacious and huge response to the ticket sales indicates that there is a strong and eager audience for such a pathbreaking event.

The comments also highlighted fashion as a strong point of appreciation. One person particularly complimented her appearance by saying, “The McQueen dress!!! So good.” A correspondence with another that referred to this dress read, “That outfit on you is amazing sis,” signifying how the style of Cox is an aspect of her public persona that is loved. The emotion of pride was the main theme. One message, “I’m so deeply proud of u and how far you’re going…don’t stop!” indicated that the connection between the audience and the artist is very strong in terms of the trailblazing and pioneering.

The excitement even came with a bit of a laugh from another artist. One user wrote, “SINGER. How iconic. I am so sad because I have rehearsal in DC but I would be there and I would be the loudest one in the front row.” Cox sweetly replied, “thank you darling!” which was reflecting her interaction with the fans. Another ecstatic follower conveyed the shared sentiment very well with the words, “you take my breath away,” along with some fire emojis.

This concert is not simply a production; it signifies a historic moment for the visibility of the artist and the declaration of the trans community’s talent as strong. By bringing a whole cast of trans and non-binary artists to one of the most famous venues in the world, Laverne Cox and Breaking the Binary Theatre are not just performing—they are making history and carving out a more liberal and accepting legacy in live theater. The event will undoubtedly be a triumphant and vibrant celebration of artistry, unity, and progress. Laverne Cox recently championed Britney Spears’ infamous 2007 VMA performance as a statement, showing her continued advocacy. In a playful moment, she asked ‘Am I the drama?’ in a post with Cardi B. She also showed off new merch from The Majority Report in a stylish cap. Additionally, Cox has been active in dismantling the myth of far-left radicalization in a viral video. Her fashion influence continues as she unveiled a vintage Mugler dress for an upcoming fashion book.
