Ugh. We hate that this happened to her! But Love on the Spectrum‘s Abbey Romeo can help so many by sharing her story!
In celebration of the release of the fourth season of the Netflix series earlier this month, Abbey released a candid animated video with Storybooth sharing her school experiences as a child with autism. She explains how she struggled to make friends, communicate with others, and, shockingly, the AWFUL way her teacher named Ms. Beverly treated her! Truly, we want to have some words with that woman!

Abbey explained that she wasn’t allowed to go to preschool without an aide after concerns about her safety in the classroom. Then Ms. Beverly entered the picture:
“She didn’t understand autism. She didn’t want to learn about autism and wasn’t willing to learn about how some kids like me are different. We learn different, we hear things differently, and sometimes, we have to move around a lot. Ms. Beverly wanted things the way she had always done them. Like, for example, Ms. Beverly would ask the kids to line up. She had all the girls line up, then all the boys, then at the end of the boys’ line, she made me line up with my aide because I was different. This made me feel uncomfortable and very sad.”

So brave of Abbey to share her experience! We hope teachers everywhere are listening and learning so they can stop kids from going through this same pain in the future! School should be a welcoming environment for all! Let’s celebrate neurodiversity!
