Mia Goth, who plays Elizabeth Lavenza in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein, teased why fans should look forward to the movie. Del Toro penned the script, adapting Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The book is widely regarded as a classic of English literature. It has been adapted a considerable number of times for films and TV over the years.
Mia Goth teases the ‘epic scale’ and ‘heart’ of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation
Mia Goth revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation would have an “epic scale” and “heart.” While speaking to the outlet at the red carpet for carpet at Netflix’s TUDUM 2025, Goth predicted that fans would both experience something familiar in this iteration of the iconic story and be surprised by it. She added, “I think people are going to love how epic it is, and the scale of it, it’s such a feast. But I think they will also be incredibly moved by it and maybe surprised by how much heart went into this. It’s a lifelong project for Guillermo.”
Goth also reflected on her co-star Jacob Elordi’s transformation to play Frankenstein’s monster. The MaXXXine actress stated she was “totally amazed” and “just in awe.”
As Goth indicated, conversations about Del Toro’s version of Frankenstein have been around for a while. In 2007, Del Toro reportedly stated that he “would kill to make” a faithful “Miltonian tragedy” adaptation of Frankenstein (via JoBlo). The project eventually found a home at Netflix.
The cast also includes Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Christoph Waltz in a key role. Frankenstein premieres on Netflix sometime in November 2025.
Notably, in the same interview, Mia Goth stated that she was having the time of her life on the set of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
