Miley Cyrus is heading into a new era with Bass Persuades, her 10th studio album and first full-length release for Atlantic Records. The album arrives Sept. 18, with Cyrus also set to return to the stage for two Hollywood Bowl shows in Los Angeles on Oct. 16 and 18. However, the artist seems to have eliminated her last name for the upcoming promo cycle, without further explanation.
Bass Persuades includes 10 tracks, with Model/Actriz joining on “Different Religion” and longtime collaborator Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow lending a hand on “Neon Signs.” Model/Actriz will also open the October concerts.
“Music takes hold of us,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram. “We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me. Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album.”
The Hollywood Bowl dates are notable given Cyrus’ recent ambivalence about conventional touring. In a Billboard interview last year, she said she had stepped away from traditional album cycles and large-scale tours in favor of more intimate performances, explaining that she prefers the “one-on-one, intimate connection” of smaller rooms. Cyrus hasn’t undertaken a full tour in 12 years.
“It’s been a while,” Cyrus admitted in a separate Instagram post. “The Hollywood Bowl is my favorite place to experience music and see my favorite artists. I’ve sat in those seats many times, but I’ve never taken the stage. L.A. is my heart and I’m bringing it home. See you there.”
The new album’s visual world is already taking shape, with Cyrus guest-editing a special issue of Wonderland magazine photographed by Mario Sorrenti and working with longtime collaborators Alastair McKimm and Mert Alas on the project’s imagery.
Bass Persuades is the follow-up to last year’s Something Beautiful, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys.
