The Snoop Dogg biopic is filling one of its most pivotal roles, with Myles Bullock Be set to portray Dr. Dre in Universal Pictures’ Snoop, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Directed by Craig Brewer, the film stars Jonathan Daviss as Snoop Dogg and will chronicle the Long Beach rapper’s rise in the 1990s, including his crucial creative and personal relationship with Dre. Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum of Imagine Entertainment are producing alongside Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker.
Dre’s role in Snoop’s ascent is difficult to overstate. While working on his landmark solo debut The Chronic in the early ’90s, Dre received a cassette of demo recordings by the young Snoop. Impressed by what he heard, he featured Snoop on multiple tracks, including the blockbuster “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang,” before producing Snoop’s 1993 debut Doggystyle, now regarded as one of the defining albums of ’90s hip-hop.
Brewer wrote the latest draft of the screenplay, which was initially penned by Joe Robert Cole, and the film will incorporate music from Snoop’s catalog. The director previously worked with Bullock Be on the 2024 Peacock miniseries Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, where the actor appeared alongside Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson and Samuel L. Jackson.
Bullock Be’s credits also include White Men Can’t Jump, BMF and Marvel’s Runaways. He is currently shooting Hulu’s Prison Break reboot, Prison Break: Black Creek, as a series lead.
Universal, which previously released the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, has set Snoop for theaters on Aug. 6, 2027.
