In a tribute to one of hip-hop’s most iconic anthems, New Orleans is officially declaring June 11, 2024, as “Back That Azz Up Day” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Juvenile’s legendary hit. This proclamation coincides with the announcement of Juvenile’s nationwide tour to commemorate the song’s enduring impact on music and culture.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued a proclamation recognizing the significance of “Back That Azz Up,” produced by Mannie Fresh and featuring Lil Wayne.

Originally released on June 11, 1999, as the second single from Juvenile’s 4x Platinum album *400 Degreez*, the song quickly became a cultural phenomenon, reaching the top charts and becoming a staple in music history. In 2021, it was honored as one of Rolling Stone’s “Top 500 Best Songs of All Time.”

Proclamation Highlights:

– The song has transcended its New Orleans roots to become a beloved anthem worldwide.
– It dominated the summer of 1999 and continues to resonate across generations.
– “Back That Azz Up” has remarkably become the most played wedding song in America.
– The song unites people in joy and celebration, exemplifying the unifying power of music.

Mayor Cantrell’s proclamation celebrates the contributions of Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, and Lil Wayne to the music industry and the community of New Orleans. The city invites everyone to play or request the song, share their favorite memories, and create new ones using the hashtag #BackThatAzzUpDay.

Juvenile’s Statement:

“I am beyond excited to celebrate 25 years of ‘Back That Azz Up’ with my fans. This song has been a huge part of my musical journey, and it’s amazing to see it still resonate with people today. I can’t wait for the moment each night of the tour when the song drops,” Juvenile shared. He emphasized the importance of his fans in his career, noting that their support and enthusiasm have driven the success of his live performances.

Juvenile’s recent NPR Music Tiny Desk concert, featuring a 10-song set with hits like “Set It Off,” “Slow Motion,” and “Back That Azz Up,” further highlighted his timeless talent.

Special guests Trombone Shorty, Jon Batiste, and musicians from the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra joined the performance, adding to the unforgettable experience.
