Well, Nicki Minaj had some kind of response to the backlash she’s received for her MAGA pivot.
With recent social media posts ranging from hyping up Trump and Vance as “the good guys” to making anti-trans comments in reference to a Gavin Newsom interview, the rapper has certainly been cozying up to the current administration — to the chagrin of many of her fans.
Things crescendoed this weekend, when Nicki joined Erika Kirk onstage at the Turning Point USA “AmericaFest” conference. During their conversation, Nicki was asked by Erika about her “reaction” to getting “backlash from [her] own industry.”
“I didn’t notice,” Nicki replied, smiling and pulling a face.
When Erika then said that she doesn’t “think about” her critics, as she’s “too busy building,” Nicki affirmed, “Bingo. We don’t even think about them.”
Nicki then claimed, “We’re the cool kids. The other people, they’re the ones who are still just disgruntled. But really, they’re just disgruntled with themselves. They are angry with themselves, you guys, so you can’t wake up and think about somebody who is determined to just stay mad. I literally tell them, ‘Stay mad,’ ’cause we’re going to stay joyful and peaceful and iconic and smart, and we’re gonna stay thinkers in a world that doesn’t want us to think. We will think by ourselves, on our own. We will continue to think.”
She then doubled down on X, sharing the video of their exchange and adding, “Didn’t have a clue. Carry on.”
And when an account shared an excerpt from the same conversation, calling it a “MAJOR Truth Bomb” about the Democratic Party, Nicki reposted it — along with an AI-generated photo of her with chess (you can see some distortion on the board and the pieces).
Ignore any of the legal stuff going on with Nicki; things are obviously going great!
