It’s been almost a year since the news that Law & Order: Organized Crime was renewed for a fifth season, but that fifth season would be moving exclusively to Peacock. The latest seasons of Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit have been well underway since last fall and just recently returned from midseason hiatus. That progress has had Organized Crime fans, and even the cast, champing at the bit for news of Season 5. Even Danielle Moné Truitt, who plays Sgt. Ayanna Bell posted to social media to tell fans she was as in the dark as they were about Season 5 news. Now, we finally have a premiere date and even a first look at the Christopher Meloni-led show’s upcoming season.
Peacock released both a trailer and a series of images for the new season. Peacock also released the official summary of Season 5:
“Helping to expose the dark and complex criminal world of their targets are undercover expert Bobby Reyes (Rick Gonzalez) and tech genius Jet Slootmaekers (Ainsley Seiger). While on assignment, Stabler leans on his brother Randall (Dean Norris) to keep the Stabler family safe and thriving.
Season five explores the dangerous worlds of cross-border smuggling, high-tech domestic terrorism and a crime family intent on repaying Stabler for the injury he did them in Rome. As his worlds collide, Stabler will put everything on the line to protect the vulnerable and fight for justice.”
Elliott Stabler Is in Pursuit of Justice in ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Season 5
In the trailer, it begins with a dimly illuminated Stabler explaining his whole career has been in the pursuit of justice. With the series moving to Peacock, the trailer says ‘Same Squad, New Rules.’ As the trailer continues, we see Stabler in a uniform with the name Hank on it more than once. We see it as he’s standing something on fire as well as in a car that looks like it’s about to be crashed into by a much larger vehicle. Another undercover mission for Stabler perhaps? In the first-look images, we can see that the upcoming season will feature Stabler’s team, and we’ll also see the return of his brother Randall (Dean Norris) and his mother Bernie (Ellen Burstyn). Stabler’s family drama was a huge part of the previous season and that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. This season the team will also be joined by newcomer Jason Patric (The Lost Boys).
It’s unclear if the move to Peacock will no longer make it feasible for the show to crossover with other Dick Wolf properties, namely Special Victims Unit, where Detective Elliott Stabler originated. Could Mariska Hargitay pop up on Organized Crime? Or have the two shows grown too out of sync? What about vice versa? Could Meloni show up on SVU again?
