Sonny Sandoval, the frontman of nü metal band P.O.D., is honored with his very own day of the year by his California hometown. San Diego has declared June 23, 2023 to be Sonny Sandoval Day — a celebration of the rocker’s 50 years of achievements in music and philanthropy.

“Sonny Sandoval is a musician, songwriter, philanthropist, who has never forgotten his roots as a south San Diego native,” a city council representative says.
Sandoval shares with AP, “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think there would be a day that my community would rally around my family and I the way that they have this week.”
The P.O.D. lead singer has recognized his community in many of his projects. One of his first major hits, “Southtown,” is an ode to his roots. Since then, he’s partnered and collaborated with numerous community members and organizations like the San Diego Padres and WWE’s Rey Mysterio J. In 2009, Sandoval cofounded the Whosoevers Movement which gives back to vulnerable young adults through the Youth of the Nation Foundation.
“Hearing ‘Happy Sonny Sandoval Day’ is something I will cherish close to my heart on this side of eternity,” Sandoval says.
