Polish WWII Noir ‘Wild, Wild East’ Festival Trailer Feat. Joanna Kulig

“How can I be sure you won’t deceive me?” Global Constellation has unveiled the festival promo trailer for the World War II noir thriller film tilted Wild, Wild East, made by Polish filmmaker Jan Holoubek. This is premiering at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival this month, hence this first trailer revealing now to build some buzz. Set in occupied Poland in the middle of the Second World War, Holoubek’s tour-de-force is part suspenseful western, part gritty wartime noir. In 1943, the remote Polish town of Małe Zalesie lives under the shadow of occupation. The arrival of a German officer trying to find missing gold with a dark secret of his own sent to investigate the disappearance of a Polish lawyer stirs up old rivalries and shifts loyalties, as the town becomes a stage for betrayal and survival. Itay Tiran as German official Martin Wolff, along with Joanna Kulig, Jan Bülow, Robert Więckiewicz, Aleksander Yatsentyuk, Piotr Trojan, Borys Otawa, Magdalena Różczka, Jacek Beler. Featuring a score by Jan Komar. TIFF adds: “A suspenseful western meets wartime noir, this genre-blending film will resonate far and wide.” This looks like a solid noir with some intense scenes as the town descends upon him. Keep an eye out for it if you’re intrigued already.

Almost two years have passed since the Third Reich’s attack on the USSR and German forces are suffering heavy losses while the extermination of European Jews is at its height. Enter Martin Wolff (the multifaceted Itay Tiran), a German official sent to a remote village to investigate the disappearance of a lawyer believed to be safeguarding a stockpile of gold belonging to a Jewish family. Wolff’s reputation proceeds him. His arrival to a village of traumatized inhabitants, who include Kuliś (Piotr Trojan), his scrappy wife (Joanna Kulig from Cold War), Kaim (Robert Więckiewicz), and his wife (Magdalena Różczka), sends ripples through a community ripe with impoverished locals, corrupt collaborators, and gruesome — albeit paranoid — Nazi authorities.” Wild, Wild East, also known as Dziki Dziki Wschód in Polish, is directed by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Jan Holoubek, director of the films 25 Years of Innocence and Doppelganger. The Double previously, plus other short films and series. The screenplay is written by Jan Holoubek and Aleksandra Takuska. Produced by Bogna Szewczyk-Skupień, Klaudia Śmieja – Rostworowska, Jan Holoubek, and Ewa Puszczyńska. This is premiering soon at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival this fall.
