Rebecca Minkoff has revealed why she thinks she doesn’t get one of those coveted invitations to the Met Gala, confessing she once broke one of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s infamous rules.
The Real Housewives of New York City star explained she made a “huge mistake” 15 years ago by waltzing into the same elevator as the fashion icon.
During an episode of Two T’s in a Pod podcast, Minkoff said, “That was the end of my relationship with Anna.”

“You’re not allowed in the elevator with Anna. … I’ve been told that if she gets in the elevator, you can’t get in with her.”
The Devil Wears Prada, which is rumoured to be based on Wintour, includes a scene in which Meryl Streep’s character Miranda walks into an elevator, and a woman who was already in it quickly leaves and apologises.
Minkoff, 42, went on to explain that she even tried to engage in a conversation with the magazine editor.

“I was like, ‘Hello, how is everyone feeling today?'” Minkoff reminisced.
“[Wintour] just looked down. It got silent, it was awkward. I was like, right, right I must’ve missed the memo somewhere.”
“I’m still overthinking it 15 years later,” Minkoff continued. “Maybe that’s why I’ve never been invited to the Met Gala.”
The Met Gala is a haute couture fundraising festival held in Manhattan, New York City, to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
Since 1995, except for the 1996 event, the fashion executive has chaired or co-chaired the event.
Wintour controls the guest list for what is considered one of the world’s most prestigious, exclusive and glamorous fashion events.

“As much as she loves a person who has talent,” Vogue‘s former editor-at-large, André Leon Talley said before he died in 2022. “If she does not love you, then you’re in trouble.”
The BBC recently asked Wintour if she thought people were afraid of her, to which she replied: “I hope not.”
