Dorit Kemsley is setting the record straight in regard to a recently filed court document from her estranged husband, Paul “PK” Kemsley.
After PK, 58, accused her of spending $1 million on clothes and travel amid their messy divorce, the 49-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star clapped back while also addressing her home’s pending foreclosure, her and PK’s strained relationship, her hopes for their future, and more.
“No,” Dorit replied after being asked if she spent $1 million during a May 21 interview with Extra TV. “This has been a court document that has been filed. Obviously, I’m gonna have a response to it, and when you’re in litigation, you have to sort of follow the legal process. So I think there will be answers to everything, but when you hear one version or one narrative, there’s always another side.”
While Dorit admitted to spending “a lot of money on clothes,” she clarified that she uses her own money.
“It’s my money that I earn that I work for, not his money,” she stated. “I think right now, because we’re sort of intertwined, there’s some sort of feeling like you can have a say in what the other is spending.”
Then, when asked how she found out that her bills were not being paid, Dorit said she learned the news just before the rest of the world did.
“The mortgage, so, listen, PK and I had an agreement when we separated and we followed that agreement and when there’s no communication, you’re expecting that things are status quo,” shared Dorit.
“I didn’t plan for the mortgage not being paid, and it was never brought to my attention. I was never told, ‘Dorit, I’m not gonna pay the mortgage.’ So I learned about the foreclosure, not too far off from when the world learned about the foreclosure. And by that point, you’re months in arrears,” she explained. “This is where it gets a little complicated. I do think that when you’re in these situations, the sooner you can resolve it and figure out who’s paying what and what everybody’s responsibility is, then these discussions, these issues won’t happen. Hopefully.”
As for whether PK ever confronted her about her spending, Dorit said he “never” did.
“We weren’t communicating the majority of the time. He was doing his thing, traveling most of the time, spending quite a bit of money. But … I wish that he had because that would’ve enabled us to sit down and have a conversation I’ve been desperate to have,” she noted.
Ahead of the June 2 release of her new book, Unburdened, Dorit said she’d be sharing new details about the way in which she and PK decided to part ways.
“I think that will be a big surprise, how the discussion came about,” she revealed.
“[And] I don’t know [how PK will react to the publication]. It depends on what mood he’s in. If he’s grounded and clear and in a good mood, I think he’ll appreciate it. But I haven’t seen too much of that man,” Dorit continued.
Two years into their separation, Dorit said that PK has refused to have any kind of relationship.
“It’s very difficult to coparent when you have that happening and it feels like I’ve spent the majority of the time trying to nurture a friendship, any kind of relationship, respectful and peaceful, but for whatever reason, he found that difficult,” she shared, adding that the dynamic has “definitely” impacted PK’s relationship with their kids, 12-year-old Jagger and 10-year-old Phoenix.
Dorit then added that while she was “starting to see some [positive] signs,” she was hesitant to get invested since she’d been “blindsided” before.
Looking ahead to their future, Dorit shared her “dream.”
“If I had it my way, we’ll be able to have an amicable divorce and to come out with some type of peaceful, respectful friendship, relationship, so we can effectively coparent. That would be my dream … I’m very hopeful,” she declared.
