Bronwyn Newport admitted that she was in a “dark place” amid filming on the seventh season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City during an interview on Wednesday.
While also speaking of the tense moment she filmed with Todd Bradley, 67, dishing on the birthday mishap that led to their split, her dating life, and explaining the tattoo she got to commemorate the end of her marriage, Bronwyn, 41, described the season as challenging and “messy.”
“We had a season. I don’t know what else I could say about it,” Bronwyn revealed during a September 30 interview with Vulture. “I was in a very personally chaotic and messy place, and then so much is going on with all of us.”
As fans well know, Mary Cosby‘s only child, son Robert Cosby Jr., died in February as filming was set to begin on season seven, and months later, Whitney Rose, 39, and Angie Katsanevas, 52, separated from their husbands, Justin Rose, 58, and Shawn Trujillo, 55, respectively.
As for Bronwyn, she was in the midst of a divorce from Todd, whom she split from last year after nine years of marriage.
“There was never a minute to breathe. Everybody needed everybody else all of the time. You really see us trying to balance our own personal lives and how we contribute to a group dynamic and how we are friends for each other,” she explained. “At one point during this season, I say to whoever I’m with, ‘Well, I showed up in jeans, so obviously I’m in a very dark place, and I don’t give a f*ck about this conversation,’”
Looking back on her decision to join the cast of RHOSLC in 2024 for season five, Bronwyn explained that she wanted to do something that was just about her.
“Todd had such a big career, and I really felt like a support system for him. Maybe I would make friends, maybe it was an adventure, maybe I’d embarrass myself. I grossly underestimated how it would affect my family,” she shared.
Nearly a year into her separation from Todd, whom she accused of an “emotional affair” amid season five, Bronwyn recalled an incident between them at an ice-cream parlor. As she revealed, Todd ate the favorite part of her sundae — the cherry — after she admitted to hating when he did that.
“I cried when I watched that episode,” she stated. “To watch myself being like, ‘Oh, you a**hole,’ and laugh it off and make these jokes — I didn’t want to laugh it off anymore.”
Bronwyn then said that the final straw in her marriage was when Todd didn’t acknowledge her 40th birthday.
According to Bronwyn, she got a cherry tattoo on her shoulder to honor the end of the relationship.
“Not because the cherry broke us up and I’m happy about that,” she clarified. “Going forward, I always want to notice those things that I’m not saying, that I’m not putting an emphasis on. I don’t ever want to be the kind of person who did that to somebody else, and I don’t ever want to be okay with somebody doing that to me.”
Amid season seven, Bronwyn, who enjoyed a short-lived romance with Brandon Good, 32, earlier this year, was joined by Todd for a very tense scene that ended with him storming off.
“He came to me about filming those things,” Bronwyn clarified of the moment that was teased in the trailer. “Just keep that in mind when you see it: I did not bamboozle Todd into filming ever.”
While Bronwyn didn’t share details about the personal struggles she endured during filming, she confirmed that she was transparent throughout production.
“As I walked away from the last day we filmed, I thought back on everything I’d said and every decision I made, and I kept thinking, ‘My life is so good and so full and I’m so grateful and optimistic about where it goes,’” she admitted. “It doesn’t mean I haven’t done dumb things, doesn’t mean I haven’t said things I regret, but you can tell when somebody is happy and when somebody is just trying to look happy.”
After filming wrapped, Bronwyn traveled to New York City to get away.
“It’s a nice excuse to be like, I’m in New York right now, and I’ll see them when I see them,” she reasoned, adding that dating was better in the Big Apple (during her “hot girl summer,” Bronwyn was seen kissing a man who was later confirmed to be married at the U.S. Open).
“For the summer, yeah, I felt like the dating pool, no disrespect but all disrespect, is way better in New York,” she says.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season seven airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
