Show me love, show me life / Baby, show me what it’s all about.
In 1997, Show Me Love by Robyn was a truly inescapable pop hit.
The teen singer, full name Robyn Carlsson, burst out of the Swedish charts and into the global ones, having been signed to a record label at the ripe old age of 14 in 1994.
Show Me Love was the fourth single from her 1995 debut album Robyn is Here. It was a hit globally. Although it only peaked at number 34 on the Aussie charts, the track received regular radio play and was widely known.

Robyn wrote the song with now-iconic Swedish producer Max Martin, who is responsible for many of the biggest pop hits of the past 30 years, including Britney Spears’ Baby… One More Time and the Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way.
Robyn hit teen pop queen status long before Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera’s reign.
In fact, she unknowingly boosted Spears’ career by rejecting Jive Records’ attempt to sign her in the United States.
When that happened, the label turned its focus to the young Spears, seeing her potential as “an American Robyn”.

Despite her success, Robyn soon tired of it all.
“It was frustrating for me to be a teen star,” she told Rolling Stone years later.
“I didn’t look at myself as a role model. I wasn’t ready for that responsibility … [by 1998] it felt like this huge machine was taking me somewhere that I didn’t decide to go.”

Legends of the music world, then and now
She released her second album in 1999.
Then, suffering from exhaustion, she cancelled plans for a tour with the Backstreet Boys, returning to Sweden.
Though she kept releasing music, she remained largely out of the spotlight, quietly reinventing herself.

In 2008, Robyn was back on the global stage with a new sound and a slick new look.
Her fourth album Robyn, released in 2005 in Sweden and Norway before being released internationally in 2007-2008, well and truly put her back on the map.
2010 was when Robyn really exploded back into public consciousness, with her songs Dancing On My Own and Call Your Girlfriend becoming part of the soundtrack of the early 2010s.
Dancing On My Own memorably appeared in the TV series Girls, and in 2021 was named number 20 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

She also received an honorary award from the Swedish Music Publishers organisation for her significant contributions.
In total, Robyn has released eight studio albums; the most recent was Honey in 2018.
She’s been hailed as a huge influence on contemporary pop music.
Last year, Brat singer Charli XCX brought Robyn on stage for a performance of With Every Heartbeat and an iconic remix of Dancing on My Own with Romy from the indie rock band The xx.
“To close out the year together with Charli and her beautiful fans and with my face in her hair singing Dancing On My Own in HER insainly good show. So glad I got be there,” she wrote about the experience on Instagram.
“Charli, you’re generous and cool as always, noone deserved this year more than you.”

“Love youuuuuuu!!!!!” Charli replied.
Most recently, Robyn joined countless other celebrities and fans celebrating the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live.
She performed Dancing on My Own and This Must Be The Place in front of a cheering audience at the SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert, alongside Talking Heads front man David Byrne.
