Sarah Jessica Parker has spoken about the sacrifices she’s made recently for her latest project, which led to her meeting with royalty on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).
The Sex & The City star was among the judging panel for this year’s Booker Prize for fiction and attended a reception at Clarence House in London, hosted by Queen Camilla.
The 60-year-old American actress has been an avid reader since her school days and said she “raised my hand jokingly” after “following the Booker Prize for years” only to be approached by CEO Gaby Wood to be a part of it.

“It’s been this really sort of extraordinary experience,” Parker told UK media at the event.
“My children said, ‘We excuse you for the next 11 months’. I missed many meals out, didn’t go to the theatre or see any movies, but it was the kind of sacrifice that I thought had a great nobility.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially for a reader like me, who likes nothing more than to be inside the pages of a really special book.”
British-Hungarian author David Szalay was announced as this year’s winner in a ceremony on Monday night in London for his rags-to-riches novel Flesh.

Queen Camilla then hosted a reception the following day for the short-list of authors and the newly crowned prizewinner.
In true Carrie Bradshaw style, Parker channelled her fashion icon character in a thrift shop skirt and vintage cropped Dior jacket, paired with pink Rene Caovilla heels and a Sonia Rykiel bag.
The star of stage and screen is not only a TV and film producer and shoe designer but has had her own publishing imprint, SJP Lit, since 2022.

“It’s one of your many hats,” Her Majesty said as they had a little chat during the reception.
Parker replied that it was “the one I’m most proud of”.
“It was thrilling, especially to be among this group, who are all extraordinary, smart and wise,” she said.

The judging panel was led by Irish novelist and former Booker Prize winner Roddy Doyle, along with American novelist Kiley Reid, Nigerian author Ayobami Adebayo and journalist Chris Power.
The group considered 153 long-form works of fiction by authors of any nationality written in English and published in the UK and/or Ireland between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.
