Selling Sunset’s Chrishell, Emma’s Friendship Timeline Before Falling Out

Chrishell Stause and Emma Hernan had one of the strongest friendships on Selling Sunset — until a falling out over one of their significant others.

The real estate agents met during season 4 of Netflix’s hit reality show, when Emma joined the Oppenheim Group. Emma and Chrishell became quick friends and usually sided with each other when faced with conflict in and outside of the office.

After four seasons of having each other’s backs, viewers were surprised at the distance between Emma and Chrishell once filming on season 9 wrapped. Chrishell initially hinted that the duo weren’t always on the same page — especially when it came to Emma’s dating life.

“A scene where Emma introduced us to who she actually WAS dating [didn’t make it],” Chrishell wrote via Instagram I September 2024. “This was pretty funny bc I didn’t like him. So maybe it’s for the best.”

Emma opened up exclusively to Us Weekly about the mystery man, who we now know to be Blake Davis.

“He went and filmed and put himself out there as well, and they cut everything,” she shared in December 2024. “There’s a few scenes where I have a bite mark on my arm, and they try to play it like they don’t know who it is. But we all know who it is. There’s a few scenes that if you go back in the season and kind of pay attention to what they did now, it’s super messed-up.”

Emma said it took several seasons for her to open up about who she was dating — to disastrous results.

“As it is, I’m not super comfortable showing my personal life and relationship. Then I go ahead, I do it, and regardless, your relationship is going to be judged,” she noted. “I want people to connect with me and I want people to see my real life and know what I’m doing. Then they cut my real life and go to this life that has zero truth to it and then I don’t even know about it!”

When filming began on season 9, Emma brought Blake on screen again — except this time the scenes were included in the show. Chrishell was visibly displeased with Emma’s relationship and after multiple breakups the couple is currently still together. Chrishell and Emma, however, have taken time apart with the former confirming a falling out due to Blake.

Season 4

Before Selling Sunset fans were introduced to Emma and fellow newcomer Vanessa Villela, Chrishell gushed over them both, telling Us in June 2021, “They are in different stages in their real estate [careers] and obviously, it definitely stirs the pot a little bit. But I will say they’re really lovely.”

Stause, who has been on the Netflix reality show since its 2019 debut, hoped the new cast members would be received well.

“You never know what people’s reactions are going to be, but I’ve really enjoyed working with them. It’s Selling Sunset, so I can’t say that’s been the case with everyone, or we wouldn’t have a show,” she joked. “But they are really great.”

Season 5

Emma and Chrishell, who built a bond in season 4, were always on each other’s side amid their individual issues with Christine Quinn. The fifth season of the hit Netflix series showed Emma accusing Christine of bribing one of her clients. Christine, for her part, laughed off the claims via social media but ultimately left the show.

Season 6

After Nicole Young joined the show, Emma and Chrishell remained a united front. Emma specifically defended Chrishell after Nicole claimed that their boss Jason Oppenheim was showing favoritism because of his past romance with Chrishell. (The soap star is now married to partner G Flip.)

Season 7

Different sides in the office led to Emma and Chrishell distancing themselves from the others in favor of not spending time with Nicole. Amanza Smith was one of the people most upset by Emma and Chrishell not participating in group activities.

Season 8

Issues with Nicole escalated in season 8, when she brought up rumors that Emma was allegedly sleeping with a married man. Emma denied the claims and Nicole subsequently apologized. But before the show even aired, Chrishell addressed this scene in an Instagram Story slamming Nicole.

“Disclaimer when you watch: Just know she spews a disgusting lie about a bestie that is categorically FALSE and SUPER damaging. It is NOT TRUE,” she wrote in 2024, calling out the Selling Sunset production company for “blindsiding” Emma.

Season 9

The newest season of Selling Sunset featured the first glimpse at Blake when he joined Chrishell, Emma and Chelsea for lunch. Chrishell was not thrilled by an interaction where Blake claimed he never tried a vegetable or fruit in his life — warning Emma she would have to “mother” him.

As the season continued, Chrishell expressed more of her concerns as Emma considered getting engaged to Blake. Chrishell later confirmed rumors of a falling out between her and Emma before any episodes aired on Netflix.

“Ask her about her MAGA bf who told me pronouns are dumb,” Chrishell wrote via Instagram in May before accusing Emma’s partner of using a racial slur. “I just can’t with that. Too old to allow that in. But love her from afar.”

Blake, for his part, later shared his DMs with Chrishell from Instagram that showed him sending several messages to her this year.

“Hope you know that I do love you very much and support you and very proud of you and all of your success and your wonderful relationship and support to my GF,” he allegedly wrote in November 2024. “I knew we disagree on things and that’s ok but I do think very highly of you. I really do pray that one day we can have a great friendship. Happy holidays and I hope many blessings [come] to you and your family/friends!!!”
