Seth Rogen is promising fans the upcoming Sausage Party sequel series will be “unbelievably shocking.”
Speaking to Empire, Rogen touched on what fans can expect out of Sausage Party: Foodtopia, the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series that serves as a sequel to 2016’s Sausage Party. Referring to the series as “unbelievably shocking,” Rogen further noted, “There’s one specific scene that had a special screening for the Amazon PR people. You should all just start wrapping your heads around this now. You’ll probably have to talk about this a lot.”
Rogen continued, “We had Kristen Wiig in picking up a few lines the other day, and I think we’ve all become desentised to it, because we’ll just be like, ‘Roll the scene!’, and then she was like, ‘Oh my God?! This is insane!’”
Directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, Sausage Party became the highest-grossing R-rated animated film when it debuted in 2016 with a worldwide gross of approximately $140,705,322. It was surpassed in 2020 by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train, which brought in $506,523,013 at the worldwide box office.
Sausage Party’s Sequel Series Adds New Cast Members
Following the success of the original film, the eight-episode sequel series was ordered by Amazon in Oct. 2022. Rogen, Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz and Edward Norton will all return to voice their respective characters from the original film, while Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell and Yasser Lester are also joining the cast.
“Film used to be the superior art form to television, and we humbly reached the pinnacle of what can be achieved with film in our remarkable opus, Sausage Party,” Rogen and Evan Goldberg stated when the sequel series was announced. “But now that film is completely dead and TV is the forever-king of entertainment, we’ve decided to continue the epic adventures of our culinary crew in the soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece Sausage Party: Foodtopia. It’s got all the heart, double the puns, and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it’s exactly what the world needs right now.”
Sausage Party: Foodtopia will release on Amazon Prime Video in 2024.
