Sharon Stone says a near-fatal stroke she suffered in 2001 led her to “reconsider what value things had to me in my life”.
At the time, Stone, 67, was an A-list star with a string of hit 90s movies under her belt including Basic Instinct, Total Recall, The Specialist, Casino and The Quick and the Dead.
But in September 2001, Stone was left unable to work after suffering a “massive, massive stroke” where she “nearly died”.

“When I reconsidered what value things had to me in life, I really wanted to have children and spend my time with them,” Stone told US Today.
“I only really worked as much as I needed to to support my family. But now my children have left the nest, and now I’m back to work.”

Stone had started a family shortly before her stroke.
She had previously suffered nine miscarriages before she and ex-husband Phil Bronstein adopted their son Roan, now 25, in 2000.
She went on to adopt sons Laird, 20, in 2005, and Quinn, 19, in 2006.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress recalled how the stroke led to a nine-day brain bleed.
“I had a death experience and then they brought me back. I bled into my brain for nine days, so my brain was shoved to the front of my face. It wasn’t positioned in my head where it was before,” she told the outlet.
Stone said following her recovery from her stroke, she struggled to find work.

“In those days, as a woman, if something happened to you, you were done,” she told The Guardian.
“It was as though you did something bad or wrong. So even when I wanted to come back to work, it was like: ‘Sure, you can do four episodes of Law and Order,‘ and that’s it. I did everything I was allowed to do to pay my penance for getting sick.
“That went on and on and on and on and I made nothing. And it just eventually became impossible to work.”

The parts she was offered weren’t jobs she was willing to accept.

“I reached the point where after my stroke, nobody wanting me, and people wanting me to do this silly, diminished work, I decided that I’m not going to work any more.”
She has since experienced a career comeback, starring in hit HBO series Euphoria and in the movie Nobody 2.
All three of her boys recently joined her for the premiere of in Los Angeles on August 11.
Season three of Euphoria is due for release in 2026.
