AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend I’m visiting Riverdale with The Archies & Josie and the Pussycats, written by Dan Mother or father, with pencils by Invoice Galavan, inking by Wealthy Koslowski & Jim Amash, lettering by Jack Morelli, and coloring by Glenn Whitmore & Tom Chu. Flipping the guide over, I see our personal fearless lead singer, Editor-in-Chief Heidi MacDonald, has a pull quote on the again. After Archie, I’ll be revisiting considered one of my favourite graphic novels: P.E.O.W.: Painfully Embarrassing Otaku Weekend. “The guide based mostly off the perfect promoting t-shirt!”
DEAN SIMONS: Final weekend I used to be sick and stayed fairly sick by means of the week which gave me some additional time for consolation studying – and that studying was Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. Having blitzed by means of the whole lot of the Fish Man Island arc (volumes 62-66), I’m now starting Punk Hazard – by which the crew lastly enter the Grand Line’s New World. What new foes and mates will the Straw Hat Pirates meet?
CY BELTRAN: Nonetheless on my King-kick, I snagged a replica of The Shining to hunker down and see what it’s all about. Plus, I’m to see the way it differs from the Kubrick movie – up to now there are a bunch of fascinating variations! I additionally had an opportunity to cease by Quimby’s Bookstore in Wicker Park final weekend, the place I grabbed Caroline Money’s newest PeePee-PooPoo, together with the 2021 assortment (which I used to be unhappy to overlook the primary time round!). Lastly, don’t neglect as we speak is Indie Bookstore Day, so go assist your native indie guide/comedian retailers!
TAIMUR DAR: Just a few weeks again, I had the pleasure of attending the Rely Crowley: Newbie Midnight Monster Hunter signing with writer David Dastmalchian at Midtown Comics. Having admired his work as an actor for years and even attending to interview him for his position as Calendar Man within the Batman: The Lengthy Halloween animated film, I can verify he’s certainly as good as everybody says he’s. I’ve been so busy, my signed copy of the Rely Crowley: Newbie Midnight Monster Hunter TPB has been sitting on my shelf all this time. So I purpose to lastly correctly learn the commerce.
BILLY HENEHAN: Perhaps it’s the superb wrestling protection by Ricardo Serrano Denis right here at The Beat, or perhaps it’s my very own morbid fascination with the topic of this biography, however once I noticed individuals like legendary comics author Will Pfeifer and indie comedian guide creator Corey Corcoran posting about Ringmaster – Vince McMahon and the Unmaking of America on social media, I instantly reserved a replica at my native library. I haven’t been in a position to put it down all week. Abraham Riesman wrote a closely researched biography on the founding father of WWE that reveals the origins and rise of Vince McMahon, and pays specific consideration to his ties to Republican politicians. I’m discovering it very participating and might’t put it down.
REBECCA OLIVER KAPLAN: It’s bizarre to have a lot free time on the weekend, however I’ve much more studying time with out my shitty information gig… And I’m EXCITED about that. The sky’s the restrict! I’m beginning with some comics that I feel can be pure girly enjoyable.
