Nine years after “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” George Lucas created “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles,” which aired on ABC between 1992 and 1996. While Carrie Fisher helped Lucas write a script for the Season 2 episode, “Paris, October 1916,” the pair constantly argued over the dialogue featured in a romantic scene.

“He asked me to do an episode and that was really, really annoying, but it was very, very funny,” Fisher told Star Wars Insider Magazine. “[We were] screaming at each other. Arguing big time about love scenes. We couldn’t disagree more, in any world, about love scenes.” Fisher felt that Lucas’ dialogue was stilted and unnatural, especially within the context of young Indy’s (Sean Patrick Flanery) romance with Mata Hari (Domiziana Giordano), who is suspected to be a spy by the French police.

Although Lucas let Fisher win the fight, he ended up shooting the scene as he had originally intended. “He let me win in the draft, then he went off and shot it and he changed it,” she continued. “I went crazy! I didn’t want the shimmering arm, hair in the moonlight stuff,” the actor stated. The ornamental nature of these lines stand out rather awkwardly, as Indy is essentially relaying his romantic escapade in Paris to a crowd at a grocery store checkout line.

The young Indiana Jones show isn’t Carrie Fisher’s only writing credit

George Lucas’ involvement with “Star Wars” TV shows continued with “The Clone Wars” and the previously unreleased “Star Wars Detours,” along with a canceled “Star Wars” series that could’ve changed the franchise. Although Carrie Fisher wasn’t involved in the writing process for either series, she actually rewrote some of her dialogue in “Return of the Jedi.” Per Fisher’s 2008 interview with Phoenix New Times, Lucas even asked her to “punch up one of the prequels,” although further details remain unclear.

Fisher’s writing talents are fully realized in her books, “Postcards from the Edge” and “Wishful Drinking.” The actor also penned the screenplay for the Meryl Streep-led “Postcards from the Edge,” earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1991. Fisher also earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for HBO’s adaptation of her one-woman stage show, “Wishful Drinking,” in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special category. Her writing skills were highly coveted in Hollywood, and she contributed to the scripts for “Hook,” “Sister Act,” and “The Wedding Singer.”
