Jerry Golod, an executive producer behind Tales from the Darkside and Return to Green Acres, has died. He was 87.
The producer’s daughter Dori Golod Howell announced that he died on Wednesday at his Rancho Mirage home, following a brief battle with cancer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Born Dec. 26, 1938 in the Bronx, Golod began his career in advertising, during which he led an ad agency’s TV production company before becoming vice president of children’s programs at CBS in 1975.
Following George A. Romero’s 1982 Stephen King-penned horror anthology Creepshow, Golod helped EPs Romero and Richard P. Rubinstein bring the EC comics adaptation to TV in the form of the 1983-’88 Tales from the Darkside syndicated television show.
In 2013, Golod was part of the producing team behind CBS Television Studios and CW’s reboot of Tales from the Darkside, which ultimately did not get picked up to series.
Golod was an EP on the 1990 CBS TV movie Return to Green Acres, reuniting Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor from the 1965-’71 series. He was also behind ABC’s 1991-’92 series remake of Land of the Lost.
Additionally, Golod served as an executive producer on the 1985 TV movies Brass and Condor, and he was instrumental in helping author Elliott Baker adapt his 1971 novel Pocock & Pitt into the Canadian series Adderly (1986-’88).
