Taylor Swift fans online appear to be outraged over one family’s decision to sell what many deem to be an iconic piece of memorabilia.
Anger began to swirl around the Swiftie community when a listing was posted on eBay, selling Swift’s 22 Hat from one of her New Jersey shows for a whopping $20,000 (almost $30,000 AUD).
During each show on her Eras Tour Swift’s team chooses one lucky audience member to receive the hat she wears during her song 22.

The popular songstress meets the fan at the end of the stage, often hugging them and having a very brief interaction before handing off the hat and dancing away.
Jeana Linzy, the woman behind the listing, attended the concert along with her little sister in May 2023. Her sister was the one chosen to receive the hat.
Linzy and her family have come under fire from Swifties for not only choosing to sell the hat but trying to sell it at such a high price.
”Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I feel like this item wouldn’t even hold value to me unless I was the one to receive it,” criticised one fan on X. “Like… imagine someone comes over and asks ‘how did you get that?’ ‘Oh I bought it but she didn’t give it to me’ like?”

Swift often gives the hat to younger fans, which has been another area of debate within the fandom with many fans arguing it should go to older fans who understand the sentiment.
But one X user argues that the fact the hat is being sold by an adult is exactly why it should go to the younger generations of Swifties.

“‘And that’s why the hat shouldn’t go to little kids’ Oh so you think that little girl opened up an eBay account and was thinking about how much profit she can make out of her probably most priced possession cause as we all know little kids only think about their college fund???” they wrote on X.
However, the listing specified that the funds from the hat would be going toward Linzy’s little sister’s college fund, a rather expensive feat in the US, driving other Swifties to come to the family’s defence.

“… People are struggling financially and trying to survive not everyone can afford college. grow up,” wrote one fan.
Another echoed the point, saying, ”It literally says the money is for college though. swifties will purchase anything so if she needs to pay tuition, I don’t see why y’all are outraged.”
The ad has since been taken down from eBay, however, it’s not clear if it was sold or if the family decided to keep the item.
