The Russo Brothers are congratulating the Spider-Man: Brand New Day team following a history-making success at the box office ahead of the release of Avengers: Doomsday.
Joe and Anthony Russo took to social media to celebrate the Sony Pictures film’s historic opening weekend of $360M at the U.S. box office.
“Huge congratulations to Destin [Daniel Cretton], Tom [Holland], Zendaya, Jacob [Batalon], Jon [Bernthal], Mark [Ruffalo], Sadie [Sink], Florence [Pugh], Michael [Mando], Marisa [Tomei], producers Kevin [Feige], Amy [Pascal], Avi [Arad], and Rachel [O’Connor], and the entire Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast and crew on making domestic box office opening weekend history,” read the Instagram post. “The gauntlet has been passed…”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opening weekend beat the previous record held by the Russos’ Avengers: Endgame, which opened in April 2019 to $357.1M.
The Russo Brothers now have the bonus of premiering Avengers: Doomsday after the latest installment of the Spider-Man saga, which will see the Marvel superheroes assembling on December 18 to fight against Doctor Doom.
At Disney’s quarterly earnings call, CEO Josh D’Amaro also congratulated the team at Sony and Marvel Studios on Spider-Man: Brand New Day and said that its box-office opening “bodes well” for the upcoming Avengers film.
Avengers: Doomsday features an all-star cast of actors reprising their superhero roles which include Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena), Tenoch Huerta (Namor), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing) Kelsey Grammer (Beast), and many more.
