The Marvels had one of the most hype-inducing post-credits scenes in recent Marvel Cinematic Universe history. However, according to director Nia DaCosta, she had to fight with Kevin Feige over the amount of X-Men in the film.

The final moments of The Marvels saw the return of iconic X-Men actor Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy, a.k.a. Beast. It was a moment that truly showed the multiverse of the MCU was expanding. However, it seems director Nia DaCosta wanted to make the scene even bigger, with Kevin Feige having to reign her in on how many mutants she could have in the scene:
“Okay, so Kevin and I, it’s one of our fights,” DaCosta explained in a recent interview. “I really wanted- [laughs] I really was pushing so much X-Men. And he was like, ‘We have to just be very calm about this and be measured adults,’ which is why he’s the boss, you know what I mean?”
“He knows better than I do and I’m a big nerd who needs to be reined in, so, um- But there are a couple. Of course, we have a Mutant in the movie, so that’s amazing. And then I got, you know, maybe I got my little Easter eggs as well.”
It certainly makes sense why Kevin Feige would want to temper both Nia DaCosta’s enthusiasm and the audience’s expectations for the MCU going forward. While the Marvel Studios President certainly has big plans for the multiverse saga, it wouldn’t make sense to waste every big mutant in a simple post-credits scene for The Marvels. Though, hopefully, those plans see the light of day sooner rather than later!
The talent behind The Marvels
The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.
“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”
In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
