In The Final Reckoning, Gabriel informs Ethan Hunt that the Rabbit’s Foot was not a bioweapon but an early prototype of the Entity—developed in a Chinese lab and later enhanced by U.S. intelligence after Hunt delivered it to the IMF in 2006.
In Mission: Impossible III, Ethan retrieved the Rabbit’s Foot from Shanghai to save his wife Julia from Owen Davian. Although its purpose was never revealed, it was believed to be a doomsday device. IMF technician Benji Dunn once described it as an “Anti-God,” a phrase later validated when the Entity—an AI born from the same object—gains sentience and begins influencing global systems.
