Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, Episode #6

Dragon Ball Daima episode #6 was a revelatory episode for Glorio, exposing several of the secrets that he’s been keeping for the entire series so far. But the more fans learn about Glorio, the more questions they have, and Glorio’s true allegiances have yet to be determined.

Glorio has been a mysterious character since his first appearance, already knowing about Goku and his friends, as well as their current situation, even before arriving on Earth. It was clear that he had some kind of connection that provided him with intel before heading out, and that whoever he was working with had some ulterior motives for bringing Goku to the Demon Realm. That doesn’t necessarily make Glorio an enemy to Goku, but his secrets could easily become a problem down the line.

Glorio’s True Motives Are Revealed

Glorio Will Do What It Takes to Maintain His Lifestyle

Glorio takes a call from his secret boss, Arinsu.

In the episode, Glorio takes a call from his employer, who is revealed to be Dr. Arinsu, the mad scientist sister to Degesu and known associate of Gomah. Dr. Arinsu hasn’t appeared much in the series so far, but it was clear even in her brief first appearance back in episode 1 that she’s a schemer. Because she’s had so little screen time, it’s impossible to guess what she might be up to at this point. It does explain what Glorio was doing in Gomah’s castle in episode 1, however.

Glorio’s conversation with Panzy earlier in the episode provides a little insight into his motivations. She notes that he looks like he’s native to the Third Demon World, and that it’s incredibly rare for someone from the Third Demon World to make their way to the First and be allowed to live there. Glorio acknowledges how lucky he is to be in this situation, hinting that he might be willing to do just about anything in order to maintain his life in the First Demon World–including going on this dangerous adventure with Goku. This kind of selfish motive does seem consistent with the behavior of the Majin met so far.

Assuming Glorio’s stated goal of overthrowing Gomah is in fact Dr. Arinsu’s, she may well be plotting to become the new ruler of the Demon Realm herself, or at least hoping to install someone who will support her research, whatever that may be. This would seem to put her at odds with her brother, Degesu, who has thrown in his lot with Gomah. Adding Supreme Kai into the mix, and the plot of Daima may well be a conflict between three siblings with very different views of how the Demon Realm should be laid out.

Glorio’s True Power Comes to Light

Glorio is Secretly Adept at Magic

After Panzy revealed in episode 5 that every Majin could use magic, the question immediately became, “what kind of magic is Glorio capable of?” episode 6 answered that question by pitting Goku and Glorio against one another in a sparring match. Glorio seems capable of using some powerful magic, having fired a magical energy blast at Goku, as well as using some magic lightning from his hands that was very difficult to avoid. Glorio may well have some more secret weapons up his sleeve, but that’s something that will only become clear with time.

Glorio having familiarity with magic may well be a boon to Goku and friends, as magic has always remained one of Goku’s blind spots. Magic is pretty rare on Earth and in the wider universe, it would seem, but here in the Demon Realm, it’s commonplace, and Goku needs to be able to adapt to that fact. That’s not to say Goku has no experience with magic; he’s certainly encountered enemies with magical power before, but he doesn’t really have a full understanding of what magic is capable of, or how to sense it the way that he can Ki.

The fact that Glorio took exception to Goku’s claims of being stronger suggests that he has more pride in his power than one might’ve expected. Perhaps Glorio has literally fought his way to the First Demon World, being selected for work there due to his high power level. In that sense, he really would be somewhat lucky to have a natural aptitude for magic and fighting, but the truth of just how Glorio found himself in this situation, working for Arinsu, remains to be seen.

Episode #6 Was Heavy on Exposition

Exposition May Not Always Be Exciting, But It Is Essential

The Minotaur looms over Goku's group.

There were several events in episode #6 that didn’t have to do with Glorio which are still important. Panzy got to flex her mechanical skills right away by helping to repair the plane, for example, proving she has some value to the team. Supreme Kai revealed a lot about the nature of his people, the Glind, and what he revealed was both fascinating and potentially important, as it shows just how Degesu and Arinsu are connected to him. Goku’s quest will inevitably take him to the Second Demon World, so understanding the Glind may be essential.

The episode overall wasn’t quite as exciting as some previous episodes, but the animation was very good overall, and we still got a cool fight sequence between Glorio and Goku, which proved to be very revealing. The Minotaur bit was classic Toriyama, and it’s always funny to see the jaw drop on those unaccustomed to Goku’s insane power. Dragon Ball Daima has been quite good at maintaining that sense of humor, which is a big part of what makes the series really feel like Dragon Ball.

It’s safe to say that episode #6 was a transitional episode that laid the foundations for some important plot revelations to come. Supreme Kai is already suspicious of Glorio, so the truth of his motives and employment will come about sooner or later, and it will be interesting to see how the group handles it. As the mysteries continue to build, the next episode of Dragon Ball Daima becomes that much more eagerly anticipated.
