When Ozzy Osbourne was asked if he'd ever seen the movie, Ozzy said that he had but that he was the only one who wasn't laughing. It was too close to reality for him. He even said that this moment, the famous "it goes up to 11", actually happened with him. I think that's as good of an endorsement that This is Spinal Tap has ever gotten.
