Netflix dropped the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew this morning, and it’s our Trailer Tuesday pick.
What the Trailer Show
The Magician’s Nephew is the story of how Narnia began. It’s the sixth book C.S. Lewis published in the series, but chronologically the first.
The trailer introduces young Digory Kirke (David McKenna), whose uncle (Daniel Craig) turns out to be a magician. His latest trick is the creation of the world that will become Narnia. Netflix describes the film as “a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages to experience the creation of Narnia.”
The music is a talking point on its own: the trailer is scored with Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” a song that’s rarely licensed for film. The trailer follows a teaser poster that showed Aslan in silhouette under the tagline “A Universe Begins,” seeming to confirm he has his mane.
Cast and Crew
Beatrice Campbell plays Polly. Daniel Craig plays Uncle Andrew, Emma Mackey is Jadis, and Meryl Streep voices Aslan.
Carey Mulligan and Ciarán Hinds are also in the cast, along with Denise Gough, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Susan Wokoma and Samantha Spiro.
Greta Gerwig wrote and directed, and she produced with Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal and Vincent Sieber-Smith. Seamus McGarvey is the cinematographer, and Andrew Watt and Mark Ronson composed the score.
Where to See It
Netflix is giving this one a real theatrical run, its first major one. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew opens in IMAX and theaters on February 12, 2027, with IMAX-only sneak previews beginning February 10.
It reaches Netflix on April 2, 2027. The film was previously set for 2026 and moved to 2027 for its full theatrical release.
