Today’s Trailer Tuesday spotlight goes to ‘The Choral’, the newest collaboration between BAFTA, Olivier, and Tony Award-winning duo Nicholas Hytner (director) and Alan Bennett (writer).
The pair behind The Madness of King George, The History Boys, and The Lady in the Van return with a sweeping, emotionally charged period drama set against the backdrop of World War I.
Set in 1916, as the war devastates communities across the Western Front, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire faces an impossible challenge: nearly all of its men have been drafted into the army. Refusing to let the music fall silent, the society recruits local young men to rebuild their ranks, and hires a new chorus master who may be carrying secrets of his own.
Ralph Fiennes stars as Dr. Henry Guthrie, a driven and uncompromising conductor recently returned from a career in Germany. As conscription notices spread and uncertainty grips the town, the community discovers that their most powerful response to chaos is to come together and make music.
The film also features an outstanding ensemble including Roger Allam, Amara Okereke, Simon Russell Beale, and Thomas Howes.
With Hytner’s masterful direction and Bennett’s signature humanity and wit, The Choral promises to be a moving, resonant story about unity, resilience, and the transformative power of music in the darkest of times.
