General Hospital and Days of Our Lives star Tyler Christopher has died at the age of 50 following a ”cardiac event”.
The shock news was confirmed by his General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard, 60, this morning.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment,” Benard said in his post on Instagram.

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him,” Benard continued.
He added: “Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”

“We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father,” he concluded.
“This hurts the heart. I loved him on General Hospital. Sending love and prayers to family and his friends,” one fan wrote underneath the post.

Christopher is known for his roles as Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital and Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives.
He is survived by two children who he shares with his reporter ex-wife Brienne Pedigo.
He was married to Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.
He filmed the TV movie Ice Storm which came out this year and has also appeared in 2022’s Thor: God of Thunder.
He was nominated for five Daytime Emmys on General Hospital.
According to People, he was placed under the guardianship of his sister back in 2019.
He reportedly suffered an accident that year and internal bleeding during ”alcohol withdrawal”.
He was reportedly arrested in May for “public intoxication”.
According to Bloomberg Law, he claimed his sister “used his finances” while being his guardian.
“I never thought in a million years that I would be taken advantage of by a family member,” he reportedly said during an interview. But his sister denied the claims.
The guardianship ended in 2021.
