The trailer for Emmy-nominated director Joslyn Rose’s next movie, The Listeners, has been released in anticipation of its film festival premiere. Known for her sports documentary Stand, Rose is tackling music and healing through a fictional lens in The Listeners, which stars Blair Underwood (Longlegs), Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis (who previously appeared in The Ritual Killers), and Bechir Sylvain (Jurassic World: Rebirth).
Co-written by Rose and Dominique Mouton, The Listeners follows a jazz musician named David (played by Davis), who has lost his ability to hear music without any logical explanation. Underwood plays one of the doctors seeking to diagnose him, all the while unsure of whether he is suffering neurological or psychological symptoms. The movie also stars Simone Leanora and Cindy Herron. Check out the trailer below:
The Listeners will have its world premiere at the IFS (Independent Filmmakers Showcase) Film Festival in LA, which runs from May 13th to 24th next month, and it will screen at the TCL Chinese Theatre during that period. Audiences will have another chance to screen the film as part of the 17th Annual New Media Film Festival, at the Culver Theatre on June 4.
Despite not yet premiering publicly, The Listeners had already nabbed a Best Actor award for Underwood and Best Director for Rose herself. The early acclaim highlights the movie’s powerful performances, while the addition of original music by Grammy nominee No I.D. and Academy Award winner Jon Batiste is sure to emphasize the story’s themes.
The Listeners will have its world premiere as part of the IFS LA Film Festival, from May 13 – 24.
