Is Amanda Waller being put into Checkmate? A new rumor suggests that the Task Force X offshoot is headed to the DC Universe in the upcoming series.
The Waller series sits in a very odd place. The project was originally implied to be one of the first shows to come out of the new DC Universe, slated to release before Peacemaker season 2. Yet as the months drag and filming for Peacemaker having wrapped long ago, fans have gotten curious as to why the Amanda Waller-led project remains shrouded in mystery.
But if there’s anything fans can rely on when a series isn’t getting any updates, it’s the rumor mill. The freshest one to come out of the DC Universe does, in fact, revolve around Waller. According to insider DanielRPK, the show is set to introduce Checkmate into the DC Universe. It’s currently unclear what form the team will take, as they’ve been both a strategic offshoot of Task Force X, and an official member of the United Nations Security council, two options that would have a very different impact on the show depending on which they choose.
Will Checkmate Appear In Waller?
The idea of Checkmate taking form in the DC Universe has been a staple of the rumor mill ever since Sean Gunn was cast as Maxwell Lord. Many already assumed that Waller would be the best series to tee up their debut for the silver screen. And given how Amanda Waller already has a Task Force X replacement with Task Force M in Creature Commandos, one could bet dollars to donuts that Checkmate will lean closer to the Security Council version of the team if/when it makes its debut.
Some members of the DC Universe’s Checkmate may have already been revealed. According to a new rumor from scooper Jeff Sneider suggests that longtime team member King Faraday will make his debut in the upcoming Waller series. If true, it’s more likely than not that the team will have a bigger focus on government politicking given the character’s history as a spy.
