The upcoming shake-up in Netflix‘s content library will see the departure of a slew of fan-favorite titles, including a host of iconic rom-com movies and celebrated anime series. One such film that will soon be leaving the popular streaming platform is a 1982 classic starring comedy veteran Bill Murray alongside Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman.
Tootsie is leaving Netflix next month
Subscribers who want to catch the classic Sydney Pollack film Tootsie will have to view the movie soon, as the film is set to leave Netflix next month. July 2026 will be the last month that fans can watch the film on Netflix, as it will leave the platform on August 1.
Starring Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, and Sydney Pollack, among others, the movie revolves around the misadventures of a talented but struggling actor named Michael Dorsey. Desperate to find employment, Dorsey decides to dress and present himself as a woman to land a role. However, things soon become increasingly complicated when he falls in love with one of his female co-stars.
Directed by Pollack, the film’s supporting cast is as star-studded as its primary lineup, featuring the likes of Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Charles Durning, George Gaynes, Geena Davis, Doris Belack, and Ellen Foley, among others.
Tootsie was originally released in 1982 and instantly received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The satirical feature even secured 10 Academy Award nominations, with Jessica Lange taking home the Best Supporting Actress award. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, among its other nominations. Tootsie also holds a strong 91% Tomatometer score and an 81% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The comedy movie also made waves at the box office, taking home more than $177 million at the domestic box office, as per Box Office Mojo.
