Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista have come together to headline Prime Video’s new movie The Wrecking Crew, and it’s become an instant worldwide phenomenon. The two stars have carved out careers in Hollywood over the years thanks to how well they fit in the world of fist fights, shootouts, and really anything that gets audiences’ adrenaline pumping.
They’ve both done superhero movies, while Bautista has fought James Bond and Momoa has squared off with Dominic Toretto. Now, they’re united as the leads of The Wrecking Crew, where they play estranged half-brothers who investigate the death of their father. Amazon MGM put the film directly on Prime Video on January 28, and it immediately found incredible success.
The Wrecking Crew Is Trending Worldwide
After only one day of being on streaming, The Wrecking Crew has proven to be a much-anticipated title for Prime Video subscribers. The film instantly debuted on the top 10 charts upon its release. And now just one day later, The Wrecking Crew is the #1 movie trending worldwide on the subscription service.
According to FlixPatrol, Momoa and Bautista’s R-rated action-comedy is the top film in the United States, UK, Spain, France, Italy, and more countries. That’s given it the #1 position worldwide for all movies streaming on Prime Video. It’s ahead of fellow top 10 movies trending in Ballerina, The Tank, Shadow Force, Trap House, A Working Man, Splitsville, It Ends with Us, Black Site, and Our Fault.
In the United States specifically, The Wrecking Crew ranks as the #2 title across the entire streamer, falling only behind Fallout season 2’s penultimate episode. Should more people check out the movie, it very well could top Prime Video’s overall US chart in the coming days.
Why The Wrecking Crew Is Worth Watching
If you’re someone who hasn’t yet watched The Wrecking Crew, that should absolutely change. The movie has a hilarious Momoa performance, great chemistry between him and Bautista, some thoroughly entertaining action scenes, and generally strikes a strong balance between the action/comedy genres its meshing together. It’s also got Morena Baccarin, Jacob Batalon, Temuera Morrison, and more.
Those are all key reasons why The Wrecking Crew‘s reviews have been mostly positive. It currently has an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, making it a solid hit for all involved. Grant Hermanns’ 7/10 star review for ScreenRant says, “The combination of Soto’s slick direction and nice chemistry between Bautista and Momoa ultimately keep The Wrecking Crew mostly afloat,” with the familiar story keeping it from elevating higher.
Anyone looking for a new action-comedy to catch on streaming these days should look no further than The Wrecking Crew. With a runtime of 2 hours and 4 minutes, it’s easy enough to watch in a single sitting and enjoy all the R-rated jokes and violence that Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista deliver.
